Plentiful on dry hillsides in shade.
Description:
Dense perennial. Base is black, hard and knotty. Blades up to 2 dm long. Pistillate and staminate flowers widely separated on the culm. Infloresence a yellow spikelet, 12-18 mm long, surpassing the culms.
