Habitat:
Full sun. Above average moisture. Alkaline, alluvial soil. Many in the community, but scattered among Ulmus, Quercus and smaller trees.
Description:
Tree, 20 m tall w/40 cm dia trunk. Branches spreading, crown rounded. Leaves alternate/pinnate, to 20 cm. Leaflets, 9 or more, lanceolate, unsymmetrical. Male flowers in axillary catkins to 5 cm long. Pistillate flowers in terminal clusters. Fruit 4-winged, enclosing a nut.
