Original Format: Digital Orientation: Landscape Shot: This tree was deliberately planted under a Quercus virginiana "nurse tree" in a residential landscape. Every year the Sophora secundiflora flowers during the brief time when the Quercus virginiana is dropping its leaves (and there is more sunlight than at any other time of year). This was one of the first two days when the blooms were completely visible (flowers open). This tree grows in an urban front yard where most of the light is reflected off the nearby street and the driveway; it does not receive supplemental watering except in a drought 6 months or longer.
